Abstract This project creates a science-based definition and evaluation of a “50-year PV module” that integrates: (i) failure rates and degradation pathways, (ii) probability of extreme and long-term environmental exposure across climate/hazard zones, (iii) module and system design requirements, and (iv) long-term economic value (TEA + SAM modeling). This work provides an evidence-based foundation to quantify the importance of long-term reliability and to inform pathways toward credible 50-year PV module lifetimes.
